It is the law on all Maine lakes that any motorized vessel including jet skis, maintain headway speed only, within 200 feet of shore. Headway speed means “no wake.” This is to protect swimmers and to protect the shoreline from wave action erosion. Wilson Lake Association has purchased the red buoys and “NO Wake” signs to remind boaters of this law. The exception is when picking up or dropping off water skiers.
The channel from the public boat ramp to the open lake is entirely a “NO WAKE” zone!
Many boaters are not obeying this law and putting swimmers, water fowl, pets and shoreline in danger. Please help spread the word to others. Not only will you improve the safety of us all, but you might save the boater from receiving a ticket and fine!
