August 11, 2018, 9:30 to 12:00, has been selected for WLA to conduct a Guided Plant Paddle. This very important event will be lead by Laurie Callahan of York County Invasive Aquatic Species Project. By now everyone on the lake should be aware of the threat of invasive plants to local lakes. The first line of defense is having educated homeowners who care enough to inspect their shorelines for unusual plant growth, and this paddle is a great way to learn what to look for.

The group can accommodate up to 12 paddlers in kayaks, canoes or kodiaks. Participants should have sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, water, and snacks (if wanted). A small notebook for jotting down what you see, or for taking notes is helpful, too. It would be a good idea to bring along your copy of Wilson Lake Aquatic Plants: What’s growing in My Lake. We have several aqua scopes to share which are very useful for viewing the lake bottom.

This year we will inspect the north end of the lake and, after a brief instruction lesson from Laurie, we will break into groups of 2 or 3 and view different sections of the northern coves.

Be sure to register by going to wilsonlakeas@gmail.com so we know who’s coming.

Children of middle school age or older are welcome to participate.
